Pre-Fall Favorites Part Three

Sit tight, we have a whole slew of Menswear shows to dump on you. It's not our fault the Pre-Fall and Men's shows overlap!

First up is J.W. Anderson. This palette is more than satisfying, and I'm glad to say the no incline shoes are back! The simple prints are a refreshing distraction from the clown trend we've been spotting left and right.

Another favorite was Nina Ricci, whose light, ethereal dresses mixed well with the bright statement jackets and sweaters. Velvet seems to be an unfortunate reoccurring trend for the Men's Fall and Women's Pre-Fall seasons...hopefully this doesn't reflect the Fall shows in a few weeks, I will be devastated.

Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2012

I just feel like this brand is becoming repetitive now. I know Burton is doing the best she can, and she's doing a marvelous job, but this is how the brand is going to loose its cool, by keeping the same shapes and silhouettes and fur lined A-line dresses. Enough, time for something different! What would McQueen do? 

By the way...how small is this girl's waist? Disgusting! No one has a waist that small, seriously people?!

Celine Pre-Fall

Celine deserves it's own post. Listen, we feel blessed and thank our lucky stars every single day for the opportunity to breathe the same air as Phoebe Philo. That woman deserves the highest praise. She has single-handedly done for Celine in two years what no one was able to do in forty. This collection goes untouched in a line of recycled trends appropriated by brands who hail themselves unconventional.

Pre-Fall Favorites Part Deux

I hate bashing Balenciaga, but the day has finally come. Nicolas deserves a spanking for this collection. Everything that you are thankful for not feeling is written on Jamie Bochert's face (fourth picture below). This is just like that time everyone noticed a sudden change in Balmain's FW 2011 collection and then found out Christophe Decarnin was institutionalized, explaining his absence at the show and the lack of Decarninism during. 

Unfortunately, this collection is very Balenciaga. It's just the other side of Balenciaga, the side no one should ever see. 

I've been hearing Roksanda Ilincic's name being tossed around left and right lately. Maybe it's just me and I'm  too late to notice these things (not usually, perhaps only in this case), but I've taken a liking to the colorful abstraction that is Ilincic. It's simple, it's cute, and it's editorial-friendly. What more can an editor ask for? However, my only concern is this color blocking trend. When will it cease?

Pre-Fall Favorites

And we're back! We hope you all had a great holiday season, but now it's time for the 2012 grind. And with this grind brings us the Pre-Fall collections (I know, it feels like yesterday we were judging PF 2011), our favorites of which and a brief bio of said collections are below and multiple posts away.

Let's start with Stella McCartney. What a half-assed disaster. The first half of this tragedy brings us the terrifying memory of those ABC wooden cubes we were forced to play with in Kindergarten. Pair that idea with a bright (she didn't even have the decency to bless our presence with a sapphire toned) blue, unfairly cut to  flatter only those who wish to spend another fortune on tailoring, two piece suit. It's so boxy, my size 10 arse could probably fit into that sample size. See below.

The second half is a God-sent. I would wear the hell out of this white coat. The cut is miraculously flattering and the shoulders give that weird vibe that I'm attracted to for some reason. Second, those huge pockets on the black coat serve as two full clutch sizes, and I can tell you from living in this Sonia Rykiel coat for five days that they are very convenient and useful.

Moving on with Givenchy. Thus far our favorite theme and photography. I love that the clothing and models are controlled and the background is completely random. It's the contrast I beg photographers for on a daily basis, but am rarely granted. There's really nothing negative about this collection; it's practical, wearable, and trendy. I'm still waiting for Tisci to deliver a fail collection. 

I also just want to note that no one can work pony hair like Ricardo. No one.
